EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Minutes of Meeting  - May 5, 1999

.

Session Start: Wed May 05 6:02:10 1999, Pacific Daylight time.

Members present: Ted Muga, Howard Johnson (by phone) and Kathleen Hopkins.

Absent: Ron Barthel Guests: Richard Batson, Chester Gillings and Charles Riggs.

.

A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order.

Minutes of the 4/26 meeting were approved as posted.

No Treasurer's report was heard. The previous report stands.

There was a motion by the chair to approve of the proposal presented and posted previously by the CSSC on the issue of the "Nevada Summit." There being no discussion, the motion was passed unanimously by those members present. A formal letter of instructions will be sent to Mr. Charles Riggs, Chairperson of the CSSC of the approval of his proposal.

The next item was a discussion of the next meeting of the National Committee. A motion was made and passed that the NC meeting shall be held by teleconference on June 13th, time to be determined later. The meeting notice will be sent to all NC members.

Items identified for the agenda: filling the vacancies on the EC, specifically deputy secretary and deputy treasurer. Establishing standing committees and planning the National Convention were also suggested. All members will be asked to suggest other items for the agenda.

A motion was made by Howard Johnson for the Executive Committee to propose to the National Committee that the buffalo be accepted as the official symbol of the ARP. Motion passed. This item will be included on the NC meeting agenda.

The Executive Committee has previously voted to reinstate the special committees of Outreach and Communications. A motion was made by Ted Muga to appoint Nancy Couperus as chair of Outreach and Kathleen Hopkins as chair of Communications. Motion passed.

The EC members discussed the October convention. Consensus is still favoring Washington D.C. as the site of the convention. It was noted we have about two months before a final decision has to be made. This will be included in the NC agenda.

There was a general discussion of the use of the two reflectors. The EC feels a responsibility to all members that postings not become so negative as to discourage potential members. The possiblility of moderating the "members-only" reflector was discussed without resolution. The guests also gave input on this question. It was suggested that the question be remanded to the ACNC for further discussion.

The guests, C. Gillings, C. Riggs and R. Batson expressed appreciation for the EC's support of the Nevada 3rd Party summit.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:14 PM, Pacific Daylight Time.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathleen Hopkins, Secretary
