Background InformationIn 1951, the Congress amended the Constitution limiting a person from being elected to office of the President more than twice. The primary reason behind limiting the office of the Presidency was to prevent any individual amassing to much power and control thus being perceived as a Ruler or Dictator of the United States. This concern was originally expressed by our Founders which resulted in every President from Washington to Hoover voluntarily, self-imposed a two term limit . Meanwhile, both Senate and Congress legislators are free to be elected to public office indefinitely nor have they voluntarily imposed personal term limits. We believe, for the same reasons and concerns, all legislators should adhere or adopt to similar term limits as those imposed on the office of President.
