REFORM
PARTY

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MINUTES - 3/19/99

The Executive Committee meeting convened 11 AM on March 19, 1999, at the home of Chairman Ted Muga. Officers present: Ted Muga, Chair; Ron Barthel, Treasurer, Kathleen Hopkins, Secretary. Absent: Howard Johnson, Vice-chair. Other parties in attendance: Nelisse Muga, Nancy Couperus, Charles Riggs, Roy and Louise Downing, Lee and Uta Stork, and Don Torgersen. Howard Johnson was available by phone if needed.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurer has provided 3 quarterly reports and 1 year-end report to the FEC. While the numbers are small, we have doubled our coffers in the first three months of 1999.

Treasurer, Ron Barthel made a motion that the official title of the party recognized by the FEC be changed from "National Reform Party" to "American Reform Party." Motion seconded by Kathleen Hopkins. Motion passed.

It was noted by Ron Barthel that, under FEC guidelines, we are considered a political committee and not a political party.

Ron clarified the processing of credit card donations. Ron will process these donations through his business since the ARP does not have the necessary account and machine. Contributors should have it explained that the credit card receipt will show "Pine Cone Restaurant." All contributions are kept separate, and careful accounting will be maintained.

Ron recommended that we set a definite protocol for new members. This should be coordinated between Roy, Nancy and Ron to assure that out-going information be consistent.

Kathleen Hopkins made a motion that the Treasurer be directed to pay for the workshop meeting room. Second by Ron Barthel. Motion passed.

Don Torgersen discussed the status of the newsletter. He will supply the EC with the details of who receives the newsletter so that the ARP will be aware of the number of mailings we should be responsible for. This is approximately 300 recipients. Don explained that many mailings go to UWSA members and other groups. The ARP should make sure that subscription renewals cover our own members. Don is also looking into other funding sources.
