The American Reform Party was saddened to hear that the Reform Party's Executive Committee has chosen to endorse current Reform Party Chair Russell Verney's intemperate call for Governor Jesse Ventura to resign from the Reform Party.
It was dictatorial actions like this on
the part of Ross Perot and his political consultant Russell Verney that led
the American Reform Party to dissassociate itself from the Reform Party USA
in 1997. We have never regretted that decision. We have sponsored
a successful convention just this past weekend in Washington, DC, where we
were addressed by such distinguished citizens and reformers as Lowell Weicker,
John Anderson, and Ralph Nader, which merely served to confirm the wisdom
of our decision. Even Donald Trump called in to address the convention
and took probing questions on major policy issues from the
delegates.
Ross Perot and his current and former employees continue to totally dominate the day-to-day operations of the Reform Party. This remains the case despite the fact that their grassroots members elected new management, led by Jack Gargan, at the Reform Party convention last July, which is working very hard to unify all factions in the Reform Party against many obstacles. We predict, however, that Jack Gargan will be the next target of political consultant Verney. Look for more attempts to purge such reform leaders from the ironically named Reform Party.
At this time, our Executive Committee
has been handed by our grassroots membership a resolution which reaffirms
the American Reform Party's support and approval of all true reform leaders
throughout the nation, whether in or out of the ARP, the RPUSA (Perot Reform
Party), independent, Republican, Democrat, or any of the third-party
reformers.
And we reiterate our continued enthusiasm
and support for Governor Jesse Ventura, whether or not he is a member of
our party, for his reasonable, centrist and popular leadership of the state
of Minnesota.
