Lets not see any more of our senior citizens forced to move out of Bergen County. Senior citizens have been paying property taxes for many years. After their school-aged children are finished with school, the senior is continuing to pay the largest portion of their property taxes for the schools.
The Freeholders of New Jersey should bring pressure to bear on the legislators to correct this.
The seniors do not object to paying taxes for the police, fire, ambulance, road repair and maintenance but they do object to being taxed out of their homes for services they do not use.
Seniors should have access to low cost or interest free loans to expand their homes to rent out in order to offset the high taxes and cost of living expenses, higher and higher cost of medication, etc., etc.
These loans should be structured to create a positive cash flow so they don't have to wait until the loan is paid off before they derive any benefit from it.
These loans could be deferred payment loans, until the home is sold or the owner is deceased. It could also be like tax abatement that businesses moving into the area gets.
These are not unreasonable demands, due to fact that bonding is so readily available for everything else. Bonding for this purpose should be available to assist seniors as well
As for the remaining senior citizens that are not homeowners, they two are forced out of Bergen County due to the high rentals. Let's give these seniors rent subsides so they too can live out the rest of their years here in Bergen County if they so choose.
As of now, only a select few have rent subsidy, we should not discriminate, it should be for all.
