AMERICAN REFORM PARTY NATIONAL CONVENTION

October 1-3, 1999 Washington, D.C.

The Holiday Inn on the Hill, Washington, DC, has been selected by the the ARP's Convention Committee as the site for the American Reform Party's 1999 National Convention. The party membership will gather Friday for a gala welcoming ceremony.

We are busy contacting speakers for the Convention.

Ralph Nader - National Consumer Advocate, Founder of The Taxpayer Assets Project and Public Citizen, "The Consumer's Eyes and Ears in Washington", will be addressing the Convention on Friday.

John Anderson - Member of the House of Representatives for 20 years and independent candidate for the President of the United States in 1980 and former Governor of Connecticut and three-term Senator Lowell Weicker have accepted our invitation to speak at the ARP Convention. Donald Simon, Common Cause President, has enthusiastically agreed to address the ARP and will review recent Common Cause activity in the areas of fair elections, Campaign Finance Reform (CFR), and government accountability.

Ralph DeGennaro, Executive Director of Taxpayers for Common Sense will be addressing the Convention on Friday. During his 14 years in Washington, D.C., as a congressional staffer and advocate for the public interest, DeGennaro has developed a broad expertise on federal budget policy and a record of building successful cutting-edge initiatives. He has fought government waste throughout his career and has extensive experience in molding unusual coalitions between fiscal conservatives and liberals.

Author and journalist Roy Beck, Director of Numbers USA, will address the Convention on Saturday or Sunday. Roy is the author of two books on immigration. He is former Washington, D.C. bureau chief of Booth Newspapers, and is a frequent speaker on environmental, population and immigration issues.

Micah Sifry will also be addressing the ARP Convention about the prospects for third parties in American politics. Sifry is a New York writer, a former Nation editor who is currently working on a book on this subject.

Bob Schiff, legislative aide to Senator Russ Feingold, will be able to fill us in on the latest prospects for campaign finance reform and the status of the McCain/Feingold bill.

Invitations have been sent out to a half dozen other potential speakers, including Ralph Nader, Governor Jesse Ventura and John Anderson.

Lt. Gov. Mae Schunk has confirmed that she will be attending, as well as the new Chair Designate of the Reform Party, Jack Gargan.

Representatives of the Concord Coalition and Public Campaign have also been extended an invitation to address the ARP faithful.

The Convention will conclude on Sunday with a regular business meeting and Committee Reports. Since these dates are now "set in stone", the Convention Committee would like to urge you to make your airline reservations now, to maximize airline ticket savings.
